Nei Paesi avanzati, un terzo del cibo fresco viene buttato, spesso per cattiva conservazione: uno spreco gigantesco che potrebbe essere ridotto se si adottassero diversi tipi di confezionamento. Per questo Fenugreen, un’azienda del Massachusetts, ha inventato FreshPaper, un foglio di carta ricavato da materiale organico che inibisce la formazione di batteri, funghi e simili, per prolungare la durata del cibo. Basta mettere un foglio di FreshPaper nei contenitori per la refrigerazione, e i tempi di conservazione aumentano fino a due o tre volte. Un foglio dura dalle due alle tre settimane e, a fine vita, si smaltisce nel compostaggio. Per il momento, si trova negli Stati Uniti nei supemercati della catena Whole Foods, e si può acquistare on line (ma solo negli USA). (via Design to Improve Life)

In developed countries, a third of fresh food is thrown away, often because of poor preservation: a gigantic waste that could be reduced if we were to adopt different kinds of packaging. For this reason Fenugreen, a company in Massachusetts, has invented FreshPaper, a sheet of paper made from organic material that inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and the like, making the food last longer. All you need to do is place a sheet of FreshPaper in the containers in which it is refrigerated, and the food will keep two or three times longer. A sheet lasts from two to three weeks and, at the end of its life, can be thrown on the compost heap.
