City Circus

31 October 2012

The Great Recession is forcing us to change the habits of our lives, and to be creative in finding new ways of making the most of our necessarily diminished financial resources. Amidst the proliferation of low-cost journeys and accommodation, some ideas are worthy of attention. An example is City Circus, a hostel in Psyri, a neighborhood in the center of Athens, housed in an early 20th-century four-story mansion, restored with intelligence and taste. Where possible, the original elements have been maintained: frescoes on the ceilings, wrought-iron balconies, tiled floors. The furniture is all vintage or made from reclaimed materials. Obviously, it’s very cheap. And for those who don’t want to be too spartan, there are double rooms, which you don’t have to share with anyone (as long as you pay the full rate). (via Yatzer)
