Francesca Lanzavecchia e Hunn Wai sono una coppia di designer che rappresenta molto bene la contemporaneità: lei italiana, lui di Singapore, si sono conosciuti alla Design Academy di Eindhoven. Già da un paio di anni si sono imposti sulla scena internazionale con progetti che mescolano culture diverse. Quest’anno, hanno realizzato una serie di elementi che integrano le funzioni quotidiane (leggere, scrivere, sedersi, bere il caffè) con le difficoltà di movimento che possono avere le persone anziane. La collezione No Country for Old Men comprende un sostegno per camminare che ospita alla sua base un tavolino o un portariviste; una sedia che si solleva per accompagnare il movimento quando ci si rialza, dotata di braccioli ricurvi che ne facilitano la presa; un leggio che consente di usare un tablet stando seduti sul divano. Non manca nemmeno un visore con lente di ingrandimento per i deficit di vista. Il design degli oggetti coniuga funzionalità intelligenti a un gusto che si definirebbe giovanile. Cosa vogliamo di più? For a couple of years now they have earned themselves a reputation on the international scene with designs that blend different cultures. This year they have created a series of elements to help elderly people who have difficulty in moving carry out everyday activities (such as reading, writing, sitting, drinking coffee). The No Country for Old Men collection comprises a support for walking that incorporates a table or a magazine rack; a chair that tilts to accompany the sitter’s movement as he or she gets up and that is fitted with curved arms to make them easier to grip; a stand that lets people use a tablet while seated on the couch. There is even a lamp with a magnifying screen for those with deteriorating eyesight. The design of the objects unites intelligent functionality with a taste that could be described as youthful. What more could we ask? Someone willing to put them into mass production, for example. (via Designboom)
