Oak Pass House, Beverly Hills
Walker Workshop

28 September 2015

We are in Beverly Hills, in Southern California, surrounded by deep canyons and breath-taking gorges. Oak Pass House is set on the top of a ridge covered with a dense vegetation that includes over 130 protected oak trees. Designed by the Los Angeles architecture firm Walker Workshop, it is a partially buried building whose underground base contains the sleeping area, a wine cellar, a gym and a recreation room, while the living space, fitted with sliding floor-to-ceiling windows, is located in the upper unit. There is also a 23-meter-long infinity pool, accessible from the living area, in the upper part of the building that cuts the house in two, slipping beneath one of the largest oaks on the property. Not far away, about 100 meters from the main construction, stands a small guesthouse to which access is provided by a tree-lined avenue. Despite the severity that derives from the geometry and the use of concrete for the walls and limestone and walnut parquet for the floors, the place has a warm and hospitable feel.
