Halfbike

12 May 2014

Kolelinia is an Arizona-based startup that focuses on the alternative transport systems known as “soft mobility” in some parts of the world. Their latest project, successfully funded on Kickstarter, is called Halfbike and looks like a low-tech version of the Segway. “We see the Halfbike as an alternative for people tired of sitting in traffic jams, which at the same time improves their experience of travel,” writes the company’s co-founder Martin Angelov. It’s operation is simple: the front wheel is powered by pedals, while the small wheels at the back ensure stability and road holding. The brake lever is placed at the top of the central pole so that it can be gripped like a joystick. “The idea is to provide a lightweight means of transport that fits in with public systems. When you’re not using it, the Halfbike can be lifted off the ground to run for a streetcar or tucked under your arm to take the subway.” Available from next fall.
