3 Houses in Meco

22 January 2014

A system of patios and terraces form the routes that separate and unite these three houses at Aldeia do Meco, to the south of Lisbon. The Portuguese studio DNSJ.arq has designed the three residences — one for the owners, two as holiday homes for rent — following the east-west orientation and the lie of the land, on a lot that connects the street with a river at its back. Thus the houses are separate but communicating, united by the use of white plaster for the walls and poured concrete for the floors, and of unobtrusive colors and materials that blend into the surroundings.

She sits astride Italy, Belgium and Southeast Asia, and sometimes falls off. When asked what she does, she replies: I do things, see people. She has been writing about furniture for twenty years and is still not tired of it, in spite of everything. She has no free time, and is not even interested in it. For her it’s enough not to have to go to the same office everyday. She mixes with unlikely people, and contributes to Klat for this very reason.
