NYC Bike, Biomega

9 July 2014

Biomega, a Danish company specializing in designer bicycles, has recently embarked on a new, top-flight collaboration with the KiBiSi studio, founded by Lars Larsen, Bjarke Ingels and Jens Martin Skibsted. The result is called NYC and is a carefully handled and essential model made of aluminum, inspired by the needs of light transport in New York. The fork is coated with a fluorescent film: this safety measure turns the front part of the bike into a light spot able to indicate its presence in all conditions of visibility. In addition, to limit the number of objects on view and deliver a clean and minimal design, the whole set of cables is concealed inside the frame, while the chain has been replaced by a more practical drive belt made of carbon fiber. Finally, the bicycle is fitted with a mudguard on the down tube to protect the rider and allow him or her to go anywhere in all sorts of weather. From September a version with 8-speed gears will also be available.
