The faces of the protagonists of the New York art scene in the 1980s, all portrayed in the same soft black and white, with the same simple and elegant compositions, at the same distance. The exhibition at the Collezione Maramotti is based on the book Scene by the photographer Jeannette Montgomery Barron, published for the first time in 2013. Her poses are minimal and extremely well thought-out, the faces almost devoid of expression: a sort of classicism that soberly celebrates a number of now vanished icons of contemporary art, like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Robert Mapplethorpe, and portrays some of the most significant artists of our time in their youth. A splendid family album of an outstanding generation.
