Fans of Glashütte Original have been waiting for the steel version of the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date for some time. And now that it’s on the market, it has proved up to their expectations. Less expensive than its predecessors in platinum or red gold, the new chronograph has above all a more sporty character. This is already evident in the aesthetics, a totally black look lit up by light blue details: the hands, the Roman numerals and the markers on the dial, the contrasting stitching on the soft calfskin strap. And it’s confirmed by the functional characteristics: waterproof up to 10 bar; the abundant use of turquoise luminous material, ensuring perfect visibility even in the dark; the alternative of a practical rubber strap or a sturdy bracelet with a patented clasp, adjustable by up to 8 mm. What have not changed are the dimensions (42 mm in diameter) and the refined mechanism, which is what makes it so sought-after: the self-winding Caliber 37-01, accurate and reliable, obviously made in-house. The integrated construction includes significant technical solutions: from the celebrated Panorama Date to the flyback function, from the 70 hours of power reserve to the column wheel (the most sophisticated system for starting, stopping and resetting chronograph functions) and the switch lever made of a single part (studied to ensure an optimal startup of the chronograph). A complex and powerful movement, decorated with Glashütte’s typical ribbon finishes, which can be admired through the sapphire glass window in the caseback. A spectacle.
