Designing another chair, after such a long history of industrial design, is a very difficult task. And this is especially true if you’re designing one for IKEA, i.e. with moderate costs and an affordable price for the end consumer. The Swedish studio Form Us With Love (FUWL) was asked to come up with a chair suited for use in the home as well as public spaces like waiting rooms and restaurants or bars (places frequented by many people and thus subject to heavy wear and tear). The result is Janinge. FUWL has taken its inspiration from the Scandinavian tradition of wooden chairs, objects of anonymous design and familiar form, characterized by a certain sturdiness and essential lines. The innovation lies chiefly in the choice of material, polypropylene reinforced with glass fiber, and the technology, injection molding. Easy to wash and to stack, even in the version with arms.
