Lovers of classical handmade bicycles, the designers Giuseppe Gurrado and Pietro Nicola Coletta have decided to turn their passion into a business venture. In March they launched Scatto Italiano (“Italian Sprint”), a new mark of top-of-the-range designer bicycles. To start with, the pair went on a journey to find manufacturers of high-quality components, looking all over the country. In the Paduan region, they selected historic brands like Columbus (for the steel), Vetta (for the frames) and Emmeci (for the hand painting). In Lombardy, on the other hand, they got the Cerchi Ghisallo workshop to make two models of handlebars out of hickory (a type of wood chosen for its resistance: it does not splinter when exposed to shocks). For the saddles they turned to Selle San Marco and Brooks (the only manufacturer from outside Italy, but regarded as “indispensable” by connoisseurs). Using the online configurator, customers will be able to choose from a total of 200 000 possible combinations of saddle, handlebars, color, pedals and brake system. And to top it all each will receive a clutch bag containing guarantee, keys and a piece of cloth for cleaning the bicycle. Hats off! Where: Hotel Nhow, Via Tortona 35, and Promote Design, Via Sbodio 9 or Via Massimiano 10.
