Fabrica, Benetton’s training center at Catena di Villorba, in the province of Treviso, is increasingly putting its students to the test in the design of finished products, ready to be marketed. One of its recent collections, One and Only, is on sale at the prestigious e-commerce website L’ArcoBaleno, founded by Ambra Medda and devoted to collectible and limited-run design. It is made up of nine pieces created by young designers at Fabrica, including Ferréol Babin, Mariana Fernandes and Giorgia Zanellato, who are making a name for themselves on the international scene. The nine pieces, in different styles, have in common the free interpretation of furnishing accessories for the home, presented in a new way through the use of precious materials like polished stone or the unexpected element—like the ceramic parrot with a still life at the foot of Giorgia Zanellato’s flower vase. The objects play on contrasts, like the untreated wood of the handle toward the geometric metal base of Dean Brown’s container, or on the irregularity of the weave in Fernandes’s rug. One of the products is designed by the director of Fabrica’s design department, Sam Baron, who has created a decorative object in wrought iron inspired by the French tradition.
