Capeland Shelby Cobra
Baume & Mercier

19 October 2015

Baume & Mercier pay homage to a (twofold) myth of American motor racing with a classy chronograph: the Capeland Shelby Cobra. Created in partnership with Carroll Shelby International, it celebrates the 50th anniversary of the company’s victory in the FIA International Championship of GT Manufacturers. And it is dedicated to its founder the great racing driver Carroll Shelby —holder, among other things, of 16 speed records in 1954, as well as winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959—and his iconic sports car. Whose unmistakable look it echoes: the dial, in Shelby’s typical Guardsman Blue color, is decorated with the car’s original double racing stripes, the chronograph counters are inspired by the instruments of its dashboard and the hands resembles the spokes of the steering wheel. Other characteristic features: the Cobra logo set on the counterweight of the central second hand, the tachymeter scale for the calculation of speed, the blue emission luminescent details and Carroll Shelby’s signature on the back. It has a 44 mm diameter case and self-winding mechanical movement with sweeping second hand and calendar and is produced in two limited and numbered editions: 1965 pieces in steel and 98 in red gold.
