LEAPs3, Ski School
Plan Checrouit, Courmayeur

1 April 2015

It was installed in a week, in spite of the freezing winter temperatures. On the white expanse of the ski resort of Plan Checrouit, in front of Mont Blanc, the Turinese design studio LEAPfactory has created the new premises of the Ski and Snowboard School in Courmayeur. LEAPs3, the name of the module, is fully in keeping with the studio’s philosophy, which turns around a reconsideration of the modes of relationship between humanity, nature and artifice in the context of the Alpine landscape. The prefabricated building is located at an altitude of 1700 meters and stands on non-invasive foundations. It boasts high levels of technical performance and a very accurate design and above all can be dismantled and moved on a seasonal basis or at the end of its useful life. The environmentally friendly and recyclable materials have been assembled dry and guarantee a very low impact on the surrounding area. There is no trace of concrete: the studio has relied on the use of micro-lamellar ash source from a reforested area for the supporting structure, composite sandwiches for the shell and aluminium shingles for the impermeable cladding. LEAPs3 is split into two rooms: the first serves as the reception, the second as a lounge where the instructors can take a break between one lesson and the next.
