From waves to asphalt: Atypical brings the experience and the sense of freedom offered by surfing to the city, and does so by handcrafting skateboards out of solid ash that are inspired by the design of the cruiser boards of the sixties and seventies. The firm was born in Monza in 2012 from an idea of Alessandro Mitola, Nicolò Formenti and Andrea Pinca, long-time friends united by a passion for skateboarding. Its headquarters is to all intents and purposes a workshop, one of those places in which the air is still filled with the smells of sawdust and acrylic paints and where every tool has a story to tell. Atypical carries out all the phases of production, from cutting to sanding, from painting to finishing, which is done with epoxy resin to preserve the graphic designs over time and from the effects of external agents. It is these designs, characterized by rigorous geometric lines coupled with retro pastel shades, that make the boards stand out. Atypical is an accolade to Italian craftsmanship, in which the appeal of the imperfection becomes a precious added value. The brand produces sweatshirts, T-shirts and caps with equal dedication and attention to detail, applying the same philosophy as used in the treatment of the wood: in fact the screen-printing is done at a workshop not far from their own. The boards can be bought online or at dedicated sales points, already assembled and ready to ride the urban waves.
