Record watch, Alessi
Achille Castiglioni

27 December 2013

A timepiece that is a bravura display of functionality. Record is a banner watch, designed to perform a very simple task: making it easy to tell the time! In his project report, Achille Castiglioni wrote: “It often happens that we try to tell the time on our wristwatch and don’t succeed: when we’re in a hurry, when we’re riding a bike, when we’re tired, when we’re in the shower…” Created in 1989 with the great graphic designer Max Huber, this watch provides confirmation of the fact that the approach of removing and simplifying requires a capacity of control worthy only of the best. The outer bezel has been reduced to a minimum, as has the crown for adjustment of the hands, so as to leave plenty of space for the graphic design. Even the band is simply threaded under the case, with no unnecessary mechanisms, making it easy to replace by the user. Because design, when it is done with intelligence, is always on the side of the person who is going to make use of it. Manufacturer: Alessi.
