Mille Miglia GTS Power Control
Chopard

14 September 2015

Official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia since 1988, Chopard has been producing a collection of watches dedicated explicitly to the rally. And for this year’s race it has created the Mille Miglia GTS Power Control: a model filled with references to classic cars, down to the smallest details. Commencing with the design of the steel case (43 mm in diameter): the profile of the bezel and the case middle recall the pistons of an engine, the lugs and the elements that protect the crown evoke the silhouette of a vintage GT auto and the crown is decorated like an alloy wheel with three spokes. While the dial resembles an old-fashioned dashboard: the power-reserve indicator looks like a fuel gauge, the large numerals and luminescent hands are similar to those of a speedometer. Even the rubber strap is inspired by the tread of the Dunlop tires of the sixties. Obviously there are also allusions to the race: the red arrow-shaped logo around the calendar and the route—“Brescia > Roma > Brescia”—engraved on the back. Finally the “motor,” visible through the sapphire crystal caseback: here the manufacturer has introduced, for the first time in the collection, an in-house self-winding mechanical movement with 60 hours of power reserve and an official chronometer certificate issued by the COSC, attesting to its accuracy.
