Luminor Submersible 1950
Officine Panerai

23 July 2015

The new Officine Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Chrono Flyback (PAM00615) has just arrived in the shops. A professional waterproof chronograph that takes its name and inspiration from a cult object of the past: a watch made in 1956 for the Egyptian Navy, and for this known to Panerai enthusiasts as the Egiziano. In fact the sturdy brushed titanium case, with a diameter of 47 mm and water resistant up to 30 bar, has its two iconic elements: the “bridge” device to protect the crown, patented in that year, which stops it from being damaged accidentally and keeps it waterproof; and the unidirectional rotating bezel with graduated scale, useful for calculating the length of dives, with a milled profile that makes it easy to turn even when wearing the gloves of a wetsuit, and top ring in matt ceramic, resistant to scratches and to UV rays. The markings on the dial are coated with luminescent material that emits blue and green light and is clearly visible even in the darkness of the depths. As well as the materials, the movement is of modern conception: an automatic caliber produced entirely in-house, with a 3-day power reserve and flyback function that can be used to reset and restart the chronograph instantaneously just by pressing the button at 10 o’clock. One little gem is the engraving on the back: two raiders on a human torpedo, known as the maiale, that recalls its military origin.
