Bulgari Roma Finissimo

18 May 2015

The Bulgari Roma, an icon of the watchmaking branch of the Roman jewelry house (which today is part of the LVMH group), is 40 years old. First produced in 1975 as a gift for its most loyal customers, and produced in a run of one hundred pieces, it was originally a watch with a numerical dial, gold case and bezel decorated with the company’s logo and the name of the city, engraved in capital letters—and therefore a precursor of the mania for logos at the end of the following decade. And it was such a success that it served as the basis, two years later, for the development of the popular Bulgari Bulgari collection, still in the catalogue. So to celebrate the anniversary the house has created the Bulgari Roma Finissimo, an ultrathin watch of rare elegance: the case, completely redesigned in its proportions, has a diameter of 41 mm and a thickness of 5.15 mm and contains a movement which is only 2.23 mm thick. Conceived and made “in house,” the hand-wound caliber has a seconds dial at 7, while the 65-hour power-reserve display appears on the back and is visible through the sapphire crystal case back, which also reveals the impeccable finishes. The watch is available in three versions: in steel with a black lacquer dial, in pink gold with a silver opaline dial and in yellow gold, again with a black lacquer dial, produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces like the original.
