Jeff Wall in Munich

9 December 2013

For the first time the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich is hosting an exhibition by Jeff Wall, made up of works from public and private collections. An overview, centered on his production in the eighties and nineties, that retraces some of the most significant moments in the production of the Canadian artist in twenty photographs. Combining the influences of modern painting, the cinema and documentary inquiry, Wall has always explored the possibilities of representation offered by the photographic language, going beyond the immediacy that is often considered, wrongly, to be his distinctive quality. Through his huge tableaux and meticulously constructed scenes, Wall has turned the photographic medium into an instrument that dilates the moment, rather than capturing it, transforming the apparent spontaneity of the shot into a sophisticated hyperrealistic spectacle.
