Non è che per essere necessaria una cosa deve risultare indispensabile o avere una funzione sociale, ma non è facilissimo comprendere la scelta del designer coreano Cho Neulhae: prendo due sedie, ne stacco due gambe e le unisco con un tubo di metallo curvato, a guisa di molla o cavo telefonico attorcigliato. Il risultato è una specie di panca indivisibile, Callistroke, la cui statica è basata proprio sul tubo di acciaio. Ma le due sedie sarebbero state in piedi comunque, con le loro quattro gambe. It’s not that to be necessary something has got to be indispensable or to have a social function, but it’s not easy to understand the choice made by the Korean designer Cho Neulhae: I’ll take two chairs, detach two of their legs and join them together with a tube of curved metal, looking like a spring or a tangled telephone cord. The result is a sort of indivisible bench, CalliStroke, whose stability depends on the steel tube. But the two chairs would have stood up anyway, if they’d been left with all four legs.
